There is an ongoing socioeconomic and political crisis in Haiti, which has been marked by rising energy prices due to the global energy crisis, as well as protests, and civil unrest against the government of Haiti, armed gang violence, an outbreak of cholera, shortages of fuel and clean drinking water, and widespread acute hunger. The SC should strive for stabilization of the country and most importantly ensuring the safety of the citizens.

Many countries and their armies are currently working on lethal autonomous weapons systems, shortened as LAWS. In the fractions of a second, they evaluate available data and can thus decide precisely when and where to fire. They cannot be distracted by anything. Human error is no longer a source of error, and precise warfare with combat robots reduces collateral damage. History shows that technical innovations have always made killing more efficient, for example the invention of tanks or nuclear weapons. Today, robotics is viewed by many as a potential new military revolution, especially in light of increasingly autonomous combat systems. Consequently, disarmament and especially arms control must be debated, and new treaties need to be negotiated.

Radioactive waste arises from various sources, such as nuclear power generation and other nuclear fuel cycle related activities, and use for applications in medicine, agriculture, industry and research. The UNEP needs to strive to maintain a sustainable source and way of storing this toxic waste and a viable management strategy must be set in place to ensure our safety surrounding this waste in the near and far future.

Human Rights Council (HRC)

Human trafficking and migrant smuggling are global and widespread crimes that use people for profit. The organized networks or individuals behind these crimes take advantage of people who are vulnerable, desperate or simply seeking a better life. HRC strives for the eradication of these crimes through the dismantling of the criminal enterprises that trade in people and the conviction of the main perpetrators. Our goal is to safeguard people from the abuse, neglect, exploitation or even death that is associated with these crimes.

Due to many kinds of pollution, hunting, natural disasters and many more causes, the biodiversity in the world has rapidly declined. All parts of the world are affected by the extinction of different types of flora and fauna. The preservation of biodiversity does however get in the way of economic growth. The United Nations Economic, Scientific and Cultural Organization will therefore come together to find balance between economic growth and biological preservation.

Together Towards the Future

The theme for ASMUN 2023 is: ”together towards the future” with the motto being: ‘a united world’

With corona having lessened, everything is starting up again. Discussions about new and old topics have flared up. While corona is still an important topic, other important problems came into existence. Such as the war between Russia and Ukraine. This war and other problems, show that if we want a good future, we must work together. We will have to try our best to raise awareness and show how important each problem is. By working together and creating new solutions to these different problems, we can work together to a safe future.

We are looking forward to ASMUN 2023 and to see how everyone will try their best during the interesting negotiations and educational debates that we will have. We hope that everyone will have fun during this day.
